Reflection on Readings May 13, 2012
At first hearing, Jesus’ command to his friends sounds too easy to be true. His command is to love. But this is easier said than done, more complicated than the list-specific ‘shalts’ and shalt nots’ of the Ten Commandments.
If we try to learn love from watching television and movies, love is easy. Simply take pleasure in someone and, when the warm feelings fade, walk away. If we learn love from watching and listening to Jesus in the Gospels, our task is much harder.
Jesus’ love is total giving – life-giving, giving to the one being loved. This love gives joy to others without regard for our own feelings. But even more deeply, it is a giving of our self. This is the beginning of laying down one’s life for another.
But if we are to give such love, we must first know love. We must begin to grasp the depth of God’s love for us, for every part of us. In the Sunday liturgy we gather precisely to learn, remember and celebrate this love, and in celebrating we come to know it in the depth of our being.
Today, while basking in God’s abundant love, let us focus on the sign of peace. Forget the timid wave – grasp a hand. Make eye contact. Look into the yearnings within the other person. It is there that the love and peace of Christ will truly find a home.

Finance Committee Update - Parish Centre
In our letter dated November 28, 2010, which was included in the 2011 envelopes, we indicated that the Parish had not given up on the need for an extension to the church to provide a Parish Centre, Space for Children’s Programs, and for Parish Social and Fundraising Events, as well as for Special Masses, particularly at Christmas and Easter.
To facilitate contributions to a Building Fund we included, in the 2011 envelope boxes, 12 Building Fund envelopes so that those who pledged to an extension could use them to honor their commitments and others who did not complete the pledges could use them as well.
We are happy to report that from January to October 31, 2011 a total of $11,864 has been contributed to the Building Fund. Contributions to the fund are steadily increasing as people see the need for a Parish Centre. The total amount in the fund as of October 31, 2011 was $36,697. This is a good start to the process.
As a church community we are all so aware that the attendance at weekend Masse does not require an extension to the church at this time. What is required is a modest commercial grade extension with as little as possible alteration to the main building, which could serve as a Parish Centre. We are looking at an approximate 3500 square foot Centre, in order to provide space to accommodate the large number of children enrolling in the Born of The Spirit Program each year, and at the same time providing space for Parish Social and Fundraising Events. The committee is continually looking at the parish’s financial situation to try and decide an appropriate building fund amount which could justify starting construction. We will have more on this later.
It is our hope that parishioners will continue to use the “Building Fund” envelopes contained in the envelope boxes for 2012, and be as generous as their means permit.

Pro-life MP defends Planned Parenthood remarks
SASKATOON, Saskatchewan, April 26, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Funding should be denied to Planned Parenthood out of compassion, said one of Canada’s most outspoken pro-life politicians last week, who was thrust into the national spotlight last week after the media leapt on comments he had made to a pro-life convention.
THE REVISED ROMAN MISSAL
What is the Roman Missal?
The Roman Missal is the ritual text for the celebration of Mass in the Roman Catholic Church. It is written in Latin under the title of Missale Romanum. The text is then translated into the native language of each people or nation (sometimes called the “vernacular”) for use in local churches. The use of a common book ensures that we are all in unity with the Roman Catholic Church throughout the world.

Ascension - 2012
Most of the time when we come to Mass we reflect on our souls, on the meaning and purpose of having a soul, on the eventual destiny of our soul, and on how we relate to others and to God because we have a soul. But what about our bodies? What does it mean to have a body? And how should regard our bodies?
